GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to reduce rail travel by passengers during the ‘Janta curfew’ (7am to 9pm) on Sunday and has accordingly cancelled all local passenger trains originating between midnight of March 21 to 10pm of March 22.
“However, the local passenger trains, already on the run at 7 am on that day, will continue to run to their respective destinations. Moreover, all long-distance Mail/Express and Intercity trains originating between 4am and 10pm on Sunday will also remain cancelled,” a statement by NFR said.
“Cancellations of trains are expected to restrict the spread of the virus,” it said.
“Trains with low occupancy are already being cancelled,” the statement added.
