TURA: Chairman of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and sitting MDC from Williamnagar, Denang T Sangma, has decided to file a police FIR against those who falsely named his family of a corona virus infection which never occurred.
Some users on social media had named the NPP leader and his family and claimed that his daughter had recently returned from her studies in South India and was displaying flu symptoms.
“I have only one daughter and two sons. My daughter never studied outside and she is already settled with a family in Williamnagar after getting married in 2017. This mischief has been done to damage my reputation since district council elections are just six months away,” an agitated Denang Sangma complained.
The council chairman spoke with Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe on Thursday and informed him of the decision of his family to approach police with an FIR to bring to book those spreading the false stories.
The filing of the police complaint will lead to the activation of the cyber crime bureau of the state police to identify those spreading rumours.
The NPP MDC also clarified that both his sons who previously studied in Bangalore have been back in Garo Hills more than a year ago, with elder son already married in Tura and the younger sibling pursuing his Higher education at prestigious Loyola College in Williamnagar.
It is worth mentioning that ever since the outbreak of the corona virus infection began in the country, rumour mongers and mischief makers have been indulging in a misinformation campaign which at times has been damaging for many people.
Authorities have been urging the public to come forward and report such crimes so that stern action is taken quickly.
