SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner on Saturday granted permission to vegetable vehicles from Assam to come to Shillong.
On Saturday, a meeting was held between the FKJGP, Khasi Jaintia Fresh Vegetable Supplier Association (KJFVSA), along with the secretary and director from agriculture department and the principal secretary to discuss the matter.
They sorted out transport of vehicles from Barpeta, Kharbutia in Assam to bring vegetables which can be stored in godowns at Laitkor, Umphyrnai and Mawlyngngad.
The associations said, “The vegetables produced by the local farmers are not enough for the people, therefore we need to import from our neighbouring state”.
They added that the suppliers from Assam have agreed to send vegetables, but they wanted the permission of DC.
They pointed out that the vegetables will be kept in godowns and from there they will be supplied to other villages with the help of the Dorbars to meet the crisis. This will help the people in maintaining social distancing and also check price rise and those taking advantage of the situation, they said.
