SHILLONG: A society that looks after the welfare of stray animals has said that there is a problem in getting the food supply and sponsors amid the lockdown.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, a member of the Stray Animals Rescue Society (SARS) has apprised the Deputy Commissioner (DC) about feeding the stray animals.
“We have spoken to the DC regarding feeding the stray animals and she is cooperative with that. So right now, we are applying car pass to do the needful. Once we get the carpass will begin with feeding them”, the SARS member said.
The stray animals will be fed in different location wise by volunteers and some few animal lovers by maintaining the numbers wherein only 3 persons in a day can go feed.
“I am surprised that at some areas where you see stray dogs most of the time they are nowhere to be seen. Shops are closed so probably they are in search of food different places. The stray animals are not in a good condition at all. I fear more for the pregnant dogs without food as it is a difficult time for them”, the SARS members said.
The SARS member stressed that dogs and cats cannot spread corona virus so people should not abandon their pets.
The member has also appealed if anyone is willing to sponsor the SARS to help feed the strays can donate in the account 4205000100033752 or SMS/ whatsapp – 8014783320.
