SHILLONG: Setting aside their normal duty of distributing dairy products, the staff and volunteers of Na Ri Fresh on Sunday distributed grocery items in Bishop Cotton and McCabe localities.
The police personnel kept a close watch on the norms of social distancing by the buyers and there was a separate line for men and women.
A volunteer told The Shillong Times that so far 50 buyers made their way to the temporary grocery unit to get their essentials.
Although there was some rush in the morning, the people were told that there will be no distribution unless discipline is maintained. “We are trying to help and distribute the essentials as much as we can. We are waiting for the DC’s instruction about tomorrow”, the volunteer said, adding that there are 8 vehicles that have been divided into two groups. Price list is pasted on the window glass with rice – Rs 32 per kg, Onion – Rs 35 per kg, potato – Rs 25 per kg, Nutrela – Rs 80 per kg, Dal – Rs 70 per kg, Chickpeas – Rs 60 per kg, Atta- Rs 32 per kg, milk – Rs 33 for ½ kg, oil – Rs 60 for half a kilo.
It may be mentioned that the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner had informed that in order to enable the residents of Bishop Cotton and McCabe localities to purchase their daily essential commodities during the ongoing curfew promulgated in the district, the arrangement for temporary grocery units was made for Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.
