People avoid distancing in Nongstoin
NONGSTOIN: After curfew was relaxed from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday in many parts of Nongstoin, citizens came out in hordes to procure essential items thereby violating distancing norm. In Upper New Nongstoin and New Nongstoin where people largely thronged paying no heed to the advisory on COVID-19, the village authorities failed to take stock of the situation and had given an order to close down all the essential commodities shop at 12 pm.
It was also witnessed that most of the shops that have been identified by the village authority did not have markings for people to stand around their shops in order to maintain social distancing.
However, the PWD and the District Administration of West Khasi Hills on Sunday have put the markings in New Nongstoin and hopefully the people will adhere to the norms.
Cops detain violators
NONGSTOIN: After a complaint was raised against Nongstoin Police for baton-charging violators recently during the curfew, the police, on Sunday, took another action against the violators who refused to cooperate with the orders. Police officials told pressmen here that as many as 10 violators were detained by the police and brought to Nongstoin Police Station. Police told that the violators have been identified as Kyrshan Wanniang, Woodteisar Lyngdoh, Kuparlang Lyngdoh, Abius Syntong, Kyntiewborlang Paniang, Aiborlang Myrthong, Lumlang Pariong, Mekitkyrpang Pariong, Erick Sohlang and Pyniarshaphrang Khardewsaw.
“These violators were seen roaming around without any purpose and we picked them up from different locations in Nongstoin town,” the officials said.
No FIRs were charged against the violators however legal action was taken and they can be released after paying fine to the court. Often we have urged the people to stay at home during curfew, but it seems that the people are taking the situation lightly, the officials said.
