SHILLONG: Two isolation cells have been set up in Shillong jail to deal with coronavirus.
An official with the prisons department said on Sunday that while one cell will cater to the needs of the new prisoners as they will be screened once they arrive, another will be for treating symptoms of the inmates.
“We have taken up precautionary measures and currently there are no cases”, the official added.
He also said doctors carry out regular checking of the prisoners. The prisons department has also handed over sanitisers, gloves and masks to the prisoners.
To a question on social distancing, the official said though the jail is overcrowded, the department is trying its best to ensure that hygiene is maintained.
