SHILLONG: A group formed last Monday known as ‘Reaching Out to the Needy’ is providing essential commodities to the needy at their door steps in parts of the city.
Londoner Sohtun, who is part of the group, said on Monday that they have already covered 40 houses.
The group has stored essentials at a collection centre at Jaiaw to be distributed on Tuesday.
Sohtun said the initiative has helped in ameliorating the sufferings of the poor.
He recalled that at Mawkasiang, a single mother wept as she received the essential items since she had to look after six children.
The group has four cars and 14 volunteers to supply the essentials door to door.
“We are supplying everywhere in city. Our effort was made possible through donations in cash and kind by the well-wishers,” Sohtun said.
