Appeal to Lafarge to provide essential items in Shella

SHILLONG: The Seng Samla Shella (SSS) has petitioned the director of Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited requesting the company to make necessary provisions of essential commodities to the residents of Shella.
In the letter to the French company which has its office in Shillong, the general secretary and president of SSS, Manbhabok Swett and Kitboklang Shongwan respectively informed that the consequences of a complete economic shut down will have disastrous effects.
The SSS has requested Lafarge during this time of emergency crisis by providing all essential commodities including rice, wheat, cereals, sugar, salt, mustard, oil, potato, onion, hand-wash, sanitizers, mask besides others.
The organisation urged the company to provide Mobile Health Care Ambulance and recruit more doctors, nurses and all the supporting medical staff and to provide awareness programmess on COVID-19 virus as per the terms and norms advisory by the government.
The SSS also asked the company to provide food and accommodation of quarantine rooms for those infected with COVID 19.
Further, the organization maintained that local employees working in the company are not to be terminated or forced to go without wages/salaries and not to deduct the benefits provided to them.
