SHILLONG: Mettrinson G Momin, Deputy Chairman of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has lambasted former deputy CEM Augustine Marak over claims that the council has not yet received the amount sanctioned by the Centre to the tune of Rs 24 crore.
“He is misleading the staff and other opposition members by making such a statement. We have been demanding to release the salaries of the staff as well as funds to all constituencies in these trying times,” the deputy chairman said.
According to reliable sources, Momin said, the sanction was transferred and cleared from Shillong on March 20 and the paper works for the same started on March 23.
While asserting that the fund was distributed amongst the ruling MDCs without floating any tender of projects, the deputy chairman alleged that the ruling dispensation was not concerned about the salaries of the Opposition MDCs as well as council staff.
“It is an inhuman act and I am surprised how they are not providing the salaries to the staff even after the lapse of 22 months sans salary. Augustine Marak should think twice before making any untrue statement after all he also a human being,” the deputy chairman said while adding that Augustine is ignoring the staff despite availing their services.
It may be mentioned that the ruling NPP-led Executive Committee of the GHADC had earlier dismissed the allegation about the withdrawal of central funds worth Rs 24 crore.
