Resident asks DC to reduce rate of essentials
SHILLONG: A resident of Ladrymbai Dongwah has asked the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills to reduce the rate of essential commodities, a statement said. The resident, Marshall Biam, informed the deputy commissioner that the shopkeepers were willing to sell the items at a lower rate and that the weaker section of the society has been bearing the brunt due to increase in price. According to the order issued by the deputy commissioner the rate of Andra Rice increased to Rs 40 per kg, Arham to Rs 32 per kg, UP Rice to Rs 30 per kg, potato increased to Rs 27 per kg, dal to Rs 80 per kg, and Niraj Oil increased from Rs 90 per litre to Rs 150.

EJH wholesalers asked not to sell essentials to other districts
KHLIEHRIAT: The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills has instructed all wholesalers, stockist of the district, especially those from Lad Rymbai and Khliehriat, not to sell essential goods available with them to retailers of other districts without prior permission from the DC. The order has been issued in view of the shortage of open market essential commodities in the district duly assessed by the Supply Branch of the district, the DC said in a statement. It added that violation of the order will be dealt with sternly. It may be mentioned that Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya had nominated the deputy commissioner as the Nodal District officer to facilitate open market essential commodities distribution to various districts on priority basis having genuine shortage in the open market.

Sec 144 in Nongpoh
Nongpoh: In view of the prevailing situation concerning COVID-19 and to put in place preventive measures so the pandemic does not spread to Ri Bhoi District and the state, the District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi under Section 144 CrPC prohibis assembly or gathering of five persons, operation of public and private transport, operation of major markets and commercial establishment in the whole of Ri Bhoi with effect from 6 am of April 1 till 6 am of April 3. The order will not affect the arrangement of Fair Price Shops and identified local retailers within the village. Curfew passes can be obtained via www.ribhoi.gov.in. It will come into force with immediate effect until further orders.

IMFL closure extended
NONGPOH: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi, has informed that in compliance with the lockdown order to prevent the possible outbreak of coronavirus, the closure of all IMFL, “ON” licenses premises (Bar) throughout Ri Bhoi has been further extended till April 14.
Timing for opening of shops in EGH
WILLIAMNAGAR: Continuing the curfew in the district, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe issued an order with regard to the functioning of Williamnagar Main Market during the lockdown period. According to the order, grocery, vegetables and meat shops will be allowed to remain opened from 8 am till 12 noon during which the entry of vehicles are restricted. The wholesalers, who distribute goods to the retailers and delivery volunteers, can open from 12 noon to 2 pm. Other shops or small vendors are not allowed to open. The space for sale of vegetables will be decided as per demand and availability and will be enforced by the magistrates and police. However, all the shops will remain closed on Sunday, the order said.

Submission of claim for compensation
SHILLONG: The submission of data (claim for compensation) may be made on WhatApp numbers — 6009924512 for East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills, 6009907400 for West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, 6009908007 for West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi, 6009964843 for East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills — and the email id for the same is [email protected], the Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Labour department said in a notification issued on Wednesday. Further, the principal secretary has informed that data already sent have been accepted and the last date for submission is April 8.

Complaints on shelter homes
Shillong: The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), Shillong unit in a press statement appeal to the state government that there are complaints regarding different shelter homes set up for the poor in Shillong. AHAM said that many from Garo Hills who are stranded in Shillong do not have sufficient blankets and labourers were sleeping on the floor. The food supply is done by individuals, NGO’s and churches where the department concerned is not taking any initiative, it added. The movement request the government to transport the helpless people to their respective villages by providing buses at the earliest.

Contact tracing teams constituted
TURA: The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, has constituted the District Level and Block Level Tracing Teams. The team comprises of TR Marak, EAC, Tura, Mukrang Terang, District Surveillance, who is also the District Nodal Officer for COVID-19, Sengjan R Marak, Senior Medical Health Officer and other local leaders. In the block level, the contact tracing team will be led by the BDO along with medical and health officers of CHCs/PHCs, officer in-charge of police station or police outpost and a Nokma or headman. The objective of the team is to identify the primary carrier of COVID-19, who, through his/her social behaviours, might have infected numerous others in the process.

DC decries needless application for leave
TURA: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, in a strongly warded statement issued on Wednesday, has decried the move of many state government employees applying for leave on medical ground unnecessarily at a time when the whole nation is under lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The DC urged the applicants for leave to face the medical board and obtain their recommendations prior to applying for medical leaves.

Psychosocial care team set up
Shillong: In view of the ongoing crisis on COVID-19, the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District informed that a team of psychosocial care providers/counsellors has been set up to provide counseling to people who are in need of psychosocial care. Psychosocial care and support will be extended to victims of the pandemic and their care givers including family members who may exhibit symptoms of stress and mental trauma, distressed people in need of psychosocial support. People who are in need can talk to the counselors on the helpline number 0364-2500776/ 2500777. Meanwhile, the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Health and Family Welfare Department informed that Ram Kumar S, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, National Health Mission, Meghalaya has been notified as the Nodal Officer in connection with sending of information of the persons need to be quarantined based on their travel history with immediate effect.
