NONGSTOIN: With the objective to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Shallang Police and workers of the Primary Health Centre of Shallang sanitised public places at Shallang market.
Health workers and police were seen spraying sodium hypochlorite in various parts of the market as well as on trucks carrying essential commodities.
Shallang Police informed that spraying of the disinfectant was done only in public places and on trucks carrying essential commodities which came from Assam.
“As Shallang is only around 70 km away from Goalpara in Assam, we don’t have to take any chances, that’s why all the trucks carrying essential commodities, which came from Assam, will be sprayed after reaching Shallang,” a police official said.
Police personnel from Shallang told pressmen here that Nongshram, which is the gate way to West Khasi Hills, has been shut down until further notice.
Police said that even cars with passes will not be allowed to pass through Nongshram except trucks carrying essential commodities.
