New Delhi: The Lok Sabha member from Shillong, Vincent H Pala, on Friday urged the state government to identify and isolate each and every COVID-19 suspected patient, ensure adequate supply of all necessities and protect the doctors even as the country is entering a critical stage during the ongoing lockdown.
In a letter to Chief Secretary MS Rao, Pala said the administration should identify both infected and suspected patients by visiting each and every family of every neighbourhood and hospitalise all of them.
“Patients with severe symptoms should be sent to designated hospitals while those with mild symptoms should be sent to makeshift hospitals,” he said, while adding that the move will help in separating the infected and non-infected and successfully stop rampant spread of the virus.
He also mentioned that the current practice of self-quarantine has proved to be unsuccessful.
Pala urged the administration to ensure supply of all necessary commodities.
“People should have enough food supply when they are required to stay at home or under self-quarantine,” he advised.
The state should also protect all the doctors and nurses from any infection since they are fighting in the front line risking their lives, Pala said.
Besides health professionals, people from all walks of life including army and social workers at grassroots level must be mobilised and united to fight the pandemic, he suggested.
