SHILLONG: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on Friday urged the government to be more strict against price rise in the market as wholesalers are increasing the price of essentials according to their whims and fancies.
Nongrum pointed out that inflation without the notice of the government is unlawful. “The wholesalers are giving with one hand and snatching away with another by increasing prices of essential commodities’, the MLA said.
‘While the whole world including the state is facing the same problem due to the pandemic, the government should check and not allow wholesalers in the market to take advantage of the situation especially when there had been no notification from the government on price rise, he added.
While pointing out that the government has made it clear that there is no shortage of food supply in the state, the distribution to essentials in the market is not equal, he told reporters.
Nongrum suggested that if there is enough supply, then the government must take the initiative to make equal distribution of food to all the districts in the state.
