Infiltration bid foiled in J&K; 5 militants, 3 soldiers killed
Srinagar: Five militants and three soldiers were killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a defence spokesperson said on Sunday. “In an ongoing anti-infiltration operation in Keran sector of north Kashmir, alert troops braving inclement weather and hostile terrain have so far eliminated five terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the LoC,” Colonel Rajesh Kalia said. During the operation, a soldier died while two were critically injured, he said. Despite inclement weather, the two injured were evacuated, but they succumbed to their injuries, the spokesperson said. “Evacuation of the injured is hampered due to heavy snow and rough terrain conditions,” he said, adding the operation was still in progress. Pregnant woman refused admission
Jaipur: A woman experiencing labour pain was allegedly refused admission into a government hospital by its staff citing her religion in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district. The pregnant woman delivered the infant inside an ambulance, after leaving the hospital, but the child could not survive. Irfan Khan, the husband, said, “My wife was referred from Sikri to the Janana hospital in the district headquarter, however doctors here asked us to go to Jaipur as we are Muslim. While on our way to Jaipur, my wife delivered the child but the baby passed away for which the administration is responsible.” However, Dr Rupendra Jha, Principal, Janana hospital, Bharatpur, said, “This woman who came for delivery was critical and hence was referred to Jaipur. We shall further look into the matter. (IANS)

Man jumps off Delhi hospital
New Delhi: A man quarantined at the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash (LNJP) Hospital here allegedly jumped from a building to escape, fracturing his legs in the process, police said on Sunday. Sharafat Ali, aged 37, is a resident of one of the DDA flats on Mata Sundari Road under the IP police station. Delhi Police Central District DCP Sanjay Bhatia said that Ali was admitted to the central Delhi hospital on March 31 on suspicion that he had contracted coronavirus. Around 11:30 pm on Saturday, he fell from the third floor of a hospital building under mysterious circumstances and broke both his legs. His novel coronavirus test reports are yet to come in. The police officer said that Ali was not connected to the Tablighi Jamaat. (IANS)

Man shot by friend in Delhi
New Delhi: A 20-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by his friend over monetary dispute in northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar area, police said on Sunday. Imran Kahn, a resident of JJ Colony in Wazirpur was sitting with his friends in the locality on Saturday night when Feroz opened fire at him and fled from the spot, a police officer said. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by his father where he was declared dead by the doctors. The hospital authorities informed the police that the victim died due to gunshot injury. A case has been registered and efforts are being made to arrest the accused, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said, adding monetary dispute is thought to be the reason behind the killing, but all angles are being probed. PM pays tribute to Jagjivan Ram
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to freedom fighter and former deputy prime minister Jagjivan Ram on his 112th birth anniversary. “Humble tributes to freedom fighter Babu Jagjivan Ram, who struggled for the rights of the poor, the underprivileged, on his birth anniversary,” Modi wrote on Twitter. Popularly called Babuji, Jagjivan Ram fought for the rights of the underprivileged. (PTI)
