SHILLONG: They may be young but they certainly have big hearts. Hridhaan Swer (6) and Ryaan Swer (4), siblings by birth, have come forward to donate their savings towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The father of the two kids on Monday said his sons were curious about COVID-19 and wanted to know how to fight it.
On being advised to stay at home, they decided to do something more.
Hridhaan, a student of Class II and Ryaan studying in the Kindergarten, decided to use their savings and with additional contribution from the family, donated half of the money to Prime Minister CARES Fund and the other half to Meghalaya Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The CMJ Breweries Private Limited has donated Rs 1 crore to the Meghalaya government.
Stating that the donation has been made in the memory of their Late Chairman Chandmal Jain, the company, in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, also lauded the timely actions taken by the state government.
The company has also mooted suggestions to the government with regard to the use of funds with one of them being spending about 50 lakh rupees to procure hand sanitisers in bulk for the Health department.
Other suggestions include sanitising chemicals for 15/20 tankers for sanitising Khanapara to Byrnihat areas, 50 tonnes of rice distribution to the needy by assigning the identification roles to MLA or headmen in respective areas.
The company also said that it has been distributing rice, dal, oil and vegetables among 400 locals employed in the company.
Retired teachers donate Rs 25,000
The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association contributed Rs 25,000 to the CMRF on Monday. The association appealed to the public to follow all authenticated medical advices strictly and voluntarily.
“Hard times will be over soon and hopefully we will see a better and safer world with the cooperation of one and all,” the association said in a statement.
