SHILLONG: The Garo Students Union (GSU) Phulbari Unit has demanded the arrest of the VEC Secretary of Sarkarpara village near Chibinang under Demdema C&RD Block.
The union alleged that the VEC secretary, Hamid Ali, has intentionally violated the lockdown norms and carried out the construction work by engaging more than five labourers, some of whom were from Assam.
“Engaging more than 5 labourers is in violation of the lockdown guidelines. Ali, who allowed labourers from Assam to work in the state, should be arrested and punished under Section 144 CrPC and other relevant sections of IPC,’’ the union said.
The union also warned that the VEC secretary should be held responsible if anyone from the locality or adjacent area is affected by the virus.
The GSU urged the district administration to take stringent action against anyone violating the law.
