COVID-19 positive doctor’s family has travel history: Meghalaya CS

SHILLONG/NONGPOH: Meghalaya Chief Secretary, M S Rao on Tuesday said Meghalaya’s first COVID-19 case was not a case of community transmission as the family of the doctor who tested positive, had a travel history.

He also stated that the Health and District Surveillance team was working out the details of contact tracing.

He called upon all residents of the state who visited Bethany Hospital Shillong on or after March 22, 2020 and Bethany Hospital Nongpoh on or after March 30 are to immediately register themselves by calling 108 or by visiting notified links.

Bethany Hospital Outreach in Nongpoh has also been sealed by the district administration after a doctor, who is also owner of the hospital, tested positive for COVID-19 in Shillong.

Curfew has been imposed in Shillong areas of East Khasi Hills district and Ri Bhoi district following a confirmed COVID-19 case reported in the state. All roads leading to Bethany Hospital in Shillong have been cordoned off.
