TURA: The ongoing lockdown has already impacted normal life in the region and to make matters worse citizens of Tura are having to run from one end of the town to the other in search of cash from ATM machines, many of which have been non-functional since the last few days.

The ATMs of the State Bank of India located at Chandmari, Ringrey and even distant Araimile have been without cash stock for days and following suit are the private bank ATMs including that of Axis bank in Hawakhana and the HDFC kiosk at Lower Hawakhana which have not been able to provide service to customers due to empty cash machines.

Some of the ATM machines are reportedly facing technical glitches including the keypad on one of the machines at the Tura Municipal Hub no longer able to be used.

Though the government has directed banks to operate unhindered during the lockdown the financial institutions have been failing in their duties to provide relief to the common man.

“I tried to withdraw cash from my saving at Araimile ATM to buy essential supplies for home but it was not working. I could not go to any other ATM in town because vehicles without pass are not permitted to move. Had banks done their duty we wouldn’t have such problems,” complained several customers from the Dakopgre region.
