SHILLONG: The Jaintia Student’s Union (JSU) has urged the government to provide proper helpline numbers for those who are facing hardship with this calamity and the lockdown to procure basic necessities.
The JSU in a statement issued here suggested that the Government should immediately put a stop to all volunteering and help groups which helped in donating and providing food supplies and basic necessities to the individuals and households affected by the lockdown.
The union observed that the volunteers who helped in various donations, reaching out to various individuals and locations would endanger other people if they were to be carriers of the virus COVID-19.
The union has appealed to the State Government to implement new regulations and normative procedures to ensure the safe deliveries of basic necessities.
“As it was observed, those who are donating and those who are volunteering can enter any areas without restrictions, it can put the whole state at the risk of contamination”, the JSU stated.
The union said that the government should provide helpline numbers for those who are in dire need of help to procure basic necessities.
The individuals can directly contact the various governmental authorities which will help in providing the residents of the state with the basic necessities along with the cooperation and help of the leaders of various localities.
The deliveries should be made by relief volunteers recognised and chosen by the Government.
The volunteers should get proper training and should have personal protective equipments before going out for deliveries.
The JSU said that the Government should take into account all the hardships faced by many and should not complacently think that all residents of the state have the AAY card or that they will depend on the 25 lakh scheme and 10 lakh scheme of the MLA and MDC respectively.
The union also sends their condolence message to the bereaved family of the deceased patient.
