MAWKYRWAT: The Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, on Wednesday, informed that the market for essential commodities in the district will be open from April 17.
The DC also informed that the shopkeepers will sell the commodities only to three traders who have been issued identity cards by the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Mawkyrwat.
“The Mawkyrwat market will not be open to the public, but only those selected traders identified by the Rangbah Shnong. Shops selling essential commodities and pharmacies will only allowed to be open,” the deputy commissioner said.
The DC said that the Rangbah Shnong have been given permission to select only three traders from each village in the district to purchase essential commodities from wholesale shops and deliver it to the village while adhering to all guidelines.
“All such persons will be given passes and IDs by the district administration to be countersigned by the village headmen,” Laloo said, adding that shops have been instructed not to sell items to anyone without IDs.
Opening of banks
Laloo also informed that banks will remain opened from April 27, but public visiting the banks will be regulated through a separate order.
“To mitigate the hardships, the government has announced that selected additional activities like farming and MGNREGA works will be allowed in due course of time,” the deputy commissioner added.
