Chandigarh to make names of curfew violators public
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh administration on Wednesday announced that it will make public the names of curfew violators. Taking the initiative to strictly implement the lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic, Adviser Manoj Parida said the Administration would begin publishing names of VIPs defying curfew orders. “From tomorrow we will publish name and designation of VIPs violating curfew orders and going for morning and evening walk. Be warned,” Parida tweeted. In another tweet, he said: “Do u (you) know the full form of VIP? Very Idiotic Person”. Chandigarh has imposed restrictions until May 3. But Parida said any relaxations would be considered only after April 20. The special drive to nab walkers was carried out in 120 parks across the city. (IANS)
Man shot at for coughing
Noida: Coughing in times of coronavirus is bound to invite fearful stares, but when a 25-year-old man in Greater Noida coughed during a ludo game, he was shot and injured by a fellow villager who accused him of “trying to spread the disease”, according to police. The incident occurred around 9 pm on Tuesday at a temple in Dayanagar village under Jarcha police station, where four people, including the man who received gunshot injuries, were playing the board game. The injured man, Prashant Singh alias Pravesh, was hospitalised, and is now out of danger, while the accused, Jai Veer Singh alias Gullu (30), is yet to be arrested, the police said on Wednesday. Both are residents of Dayanagar village and engaged in agriculture, according to the police. “Prashant and three others were playing ludo at the village temple on Tuesday night when Gullu arrived there. An argument broke out between Prashant and Gullu when the former coughed. “Gullu got angry thinking Prashant was doing it deliberately and asked if he wanted to infect him (with coronavirus) ,” a police official told PTI. “As the argument intensified, Gullu pulled out a pistol and shot at Prashant,” he said. An injured Prashant was rushed to a private hospital, the police said, adding that an FIR was registered against the accused and efforts were on to arrest him. (PTI)
NDRF launches 24/7 helpline
New Delhi: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday said it has launched a round-the-clock helpline, over phone and social media, to provide assistance to the needy during the ongoing lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country. The helpline, 9711077372, can be contacted by phone or through WhatsApp, it said. The federal force can also be reached for help by tagging its Twitter handle @NDRFHQ and email: [email protected]. “All possible help will be rendered in coordination with the local administration,” an NDRF spokesperson said. Cops book 17 foreign tourists
Thiruvananthapuram: Seventeen foreign tourists have been booked for allegedly bathing in the sea off the famous Kovalam Beach here in violation of COVID-19 lockdown regulations, police said on Wednesday. Cases have also been registered against the owners and managers of five hotels where thetourists are staying since March 22 due to the lockdown, they said. The tourists who hailed from various countries, including UK, Canada and France, had taken bath in the sea on Tuesday despite orders banning such activities. (PTI)
