NONGSTOIN: West Khasi Hills has sounded alert after one COVID-19 patient passed away and six of his family members were tested positive.
Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills T.Lyngwa informed that the district has registered around 127 persons who came in contact with Bethany Hospital since March 22.
All of them were in secondary and tertiary contact with the infected doctor, the DC said, adding that all of them are under home quarantine where their health condition will be monitored from time to time.
While enquired about the health facilities in Nongstoin Civil Hospital, Dr. J Kharkongor, Medical Superintendent of Nongstoin Civil Hospital said that the Health Department has taken all measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
She said that one Corona Care Centre was set up near Civil Hospital with 30 beds.
“We have also prepared 10 beds for unconfirmed patients who will be awaiting report. Besides, we have also prepared another 10 beds for Corona patients under C category who are in serious condition, said Dr. Kharkongor.
She said the medical equipment like post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), BIPAD, SMEAR, oxygen and others are available in the hospital except a ventilator which the hospital is yet to receive.
She said that if there is a case, the hospital still needs some doctors to coordinate with them.
She said as of now, there is a shortage of medical staff but the government assured to send some more staff to the hospital.
