SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has requested Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to include hardware shops in the list of essentials items to help people in Garo Hills whose houses have been damaged or destroyed by rain and thunderstorm.
In a letter to the chief minister, MPYC said many houses in remote areas need urgent repair and some people are rendered homeless.
The committee has requested the chief minister to allow hardware shops to open in the affected districts.
Opening these hardware shops will provide huge relief to a large number of people and allow them to procure basic house building materials like nails, roof sheets and other necessities, the letter said, adding that it can be done under the supervision of magistrates and officers.
