Nongpoh: Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem distributed 30 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits each to Umden PHC and Marngar PHC as well as one each to media persons of Ri Bhoi to ensure their safety in the fight against COVID-19 in the district on Thursday.
The PPE kits were distributed accordingly as health workers are the front line warriors in the fight against the virus besides the district administration, police as well as members of the press fraternity.
Speaking to media persons, Syiem said that as a district they have experienced lack of preparedness against COVID-19, while stating the refusal of the people to allow the burial of Dr John Sailo Ryntathiang due to lack of awareness. He added that as a representative he does want to face similar problems in the future if there is any such outbreak of the virus.
The local MLA also stated that him along with health officials and the district administration will coordinate and work together to ensure that all necessary requirements are put in place.
On Wednesday, the local MLA visited the health care centres to check their preparedness in case of any outbreak of COVID-19 cases in the future.
