NONGSTOIN: As many as 245 families in Upper New Nongstoin, affected by the COVID-19 lockdown, received relief in the form of 10 kg of rice per household.
The rice was arranged by Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat.
HH Marwein, headman of Upper New Nongstoin, while extending gratitude to the MLA for helping the needy, said that most of the villagers have no stable jobs to feed their families and the lockdown has made it difficult for them to provide meals for their families.
Speaking to media person, one of the beneficiaries, T Syiemlieh, said she used to sell vegetables in Nongstoin market but after the lockdown she has been left without any income. “I am grateful to the MLA for providing relief in this time of crisis.”
The headman also appealed to the beneficiaries to follow the guidelines of the Health Ministry to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The distribution was carried out in two separate locations to ensure social distancing.
Byrsat informed that of 152 villages in his constituency, more than 100 villages have been provided with relief.
He added that by next week relief materials will be distributed in the whole of Nongstoin.
