WILLIAMNAGAR: The District Surveillance Unit, Williamnagar, conducted an awareness programme for the community and religious leaders on COVID-19 and its transmission and the issues relating to fear and stigmatisation of patients and those who are in home quarantines, at the multi-purpose hall of the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday.
The day-long programme was conducted in two batches in order to maintain social distancing. The District Surveillance Officer, Dr. Bibha R Marak, dwelling on COVID-19 and its transmission, spoke at length on management of dead bodies of coronavirus patients, burial or cremation by following the safety protocols given by the Health and Family Welfare Department.
While responding to the queries of the participants relating to conduct of emergent meetings during the lockdown period, Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe asked the Nokmas, church and other community leaders to conduct the meetings in batches in order to maintain social distancing and advised them to wear face masks and not to involve the elderly people.
The same kind of programme was also conducted by the unit on April 20.
