SHILLONG: Following the incident involving a 31-year-old woman driving unauthorised government vehicle, the Meghalaya Police issued several orders to the controlling officers of the districts and organisations, to ensure that government vehicles are only driven by authorised personnel and also to strictly comply with the directives of the department which were issued earlier pertaining to allotted government conveyances.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department informed that on April 25 night, information was received by the officials of Laitumkhrah police station that an accident had occurred within their jurisdiction.
A team visited the place of occurrence and found that a police vehicle was involved in the accident, and after observing all formalities at the place of occurrence, the matter was further pursued at the police station. Police said a cognisable case was registered with Laitumkhrah police station against the wrongdoer for disobedience to the order duly promulgated by public servant, dangerous driving, driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, driving the vehicle without any authorisation and for failure to comply with the directions of the police officer. All legal procedures prior and post the registration of the case have been observed by the officials of the police station and investigation of the case is still on, the statement said.
