GUWAHATI: Four more COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Bongaigaon district of Assam taking the state’s total number of positive cases to 41. It has been informed by Health Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The four patients have been identified as Anupam Thakuria from Saprakata in Bongaigaon district and Deepak Mallick, Bobita Basfor and Meena Biswakarma from Bongaigaon town.

Bongaigaon district has been declared a Red Zone after detection of these four cases.  Three of the patients are from Bongaigaon town while one is from neighbouring Saprakata. The Deputy Commissioner is declaring three containment zones in the particular localities of the town where the three patients hail from.

The district now has five active cases as one 16-year-old girl from the district was detected COVID-19 positive on Wednesday. She has secondary contact to Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin.

“The concern is that all these four COVID-19 positive cases have no known contact history with a positive person. We have to investigate it thoroughly. The people have to cooperate. They were suffering from fever and tests were conducted on suspicion. We are shifting all the COVID-19 positive patients of Bongaigaon to MMC Hospital in Guwahati,” informed the health minister who was in Bongaigaon on Thursday.

Till date 29 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals in Assam after their recovery while one patient has died of the pandemic in the state. The state now has 11 COVID-9 positive persons admitted in hospitals.
