58 migrant labourers detected in Ri Bhoi

SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi police detected 58 migrant labourers who were trying to cross over to Assam on Tuesday night.
Ri Bhoi SP, C Syrti said that they were detained by the state police at Byrnihat screening centre.
He said that the group of labourers came from East Jaintia Hills and they were working in Byndihati village in the district.
It is learnt that they managed to get an empty truck which was coming from Silchar after unloading.
However, before reaching Byrnihat, the truck driver panicked and told them to get down after which they started walking and were noticed by the screening centre.
Police said that their plan was to go to Beltola in Guwahati in the same truck.
“I spoke to the DC and SP of East Jaintia Hills and they were taken back to East Jaintia Hills on the same night”, Syrti said.
It was informed that all the 58 hail from Bihar and were working as carpenters, masons besides others.
