SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) on Thursday asked the Education department to hold consultations with the school managing committees (SMCs) before coming up with a decision on reopening of schools in the state.
In a statement issued here, president of KJDSTA president, Kular Khongjirem referred to an earlier meeting convened by the Education department with religious groups and leaders — who are mostly sponsoring bodies — on reopening of schools but no opinion was sought from either the SMCs or the teaching community at various levels. Khongjirem also suggested that the department should seek views and suggestion from teachers, parents/guardians or even students, in some cases, before announcing any decision on reopening of schools post the lockdown period.
