SHILLONG: Defence forces are doing a yeoman job across the country, including the North East, by feeding the poor, distributing relief among underprivileged students and sanitising public places during the lockdown. In Manipur, the Thinghat Battalion of Assam Rifles distributed toiletries among students from BPL families on Friday. Assam Rifles also distributed meals and essential items among daily wage earners in northeastern states on the occasion of May Day. In Assam, NDRF carried out sanitisation drive at Sukhleswar Temple, Umananda Temple and Hari Sabha Temple Paltan Bazar. It gave food and masks to over 2,000 needy people. It organised thermal screening in various parts.
