MAWKYRWAT: The Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills district, Isawanda Laloo, has ordered the formation of Community COVID-19 Management Committee at the village level with the headman as the Chairman to prepare and enhance the capacity of the village and local community to spread awareness on novel coronavirus and to support the efforts of the government in preventing the spread of the disease.
Apart from the headman as the chairman, the committee will have secretary of the village as member secretary, and the members of the committee will include the secretary of VEC, pastor or priest or leader of religious institution, ASHA worker, anganwadi worker, two assistant teachers— one male and one female— representative of Seng Longkmie, representative of Seng Samla and one community volunteer.
However, the chairman of the Committee may co-opt any other member and the number of members may not exceed 15, the DC said, adding that the headman should constitute the committee at the earliest and submit it to the Sector Officer.
Laloo also said that the Committee will perform its roles and functions as per the terms or references, which include ensuring home quarantine for those stranded persons who have come back to their villages, identifying a site or place which can be utilised as a community quarantine centre for the village, assisting the office in ensuring that persons adhere strictly to home quarantine protocols, ensuring that all requirements of quarantined persons or families are being met, ensuring that there is no stigmatisation of quarantined persons, assisting the Medical Health Officer whenever they need to carry out medical checkups of any symptomatic cases, reporting to the control room if any person displays
symptoms of COVID-19, ensuring that there are no religious gatherings, weddings, etc, and if the need arises, the Committee will help the contact tracing teams of those persons who have come into contact with those who have been affected by the disease.
