JOWAI: Several houses in Khliehriat West, East Jaintia Hills, have gone a full month without power supply due to a malfunction in the transformer.
The transformer, which is installed near Iawpynkat UP School in the town, has been reportedly malfunctioning and the officials of the MeECL are yet to repair or replace it with a new one.
“With no electricity supply, residents of the houses living under lockdown due to COVID-19 are in trouble for buying charcoal to cook food and candle for light let alone the cost of buying essential commodities. The poor families have been the most affected group among the residents,” the Jaintia National Council, Khliehriat Circle (JNC-KC) president, Rimiki Dkhar, said.
Concerned about the residents, the council activists approached the office of the Executive Engineer, MePDCL, Khliehriat Distribution Division and placed a complaint requesting that officials take up the matter seriously at the earliest.
