Residents resist relocation of migrant workers

SHILLONG: Some residents of Jengjal area in West Garo Hills, on Saturday last, obstructed public servants, who were shifting a group of stranded migrant workers from one facility to another, from discharging their duties, a report said.
As many as 17 migrant labourers, who were stranded in the district since the commencement of the lockdown, were being shifted from ISBT Tura to Government Jengjal Secondary School, identified as a transit shelter home for migrants. However, some residents identified as Arnith Marak, Nitu Sangma and five others, obstructed the public servants from discharging their lawful duties and did not allow them to shift the migrant labourers, the report said. In this connection, Shelly Ch Momin, BDO of Rongram C&RD Block, West Garo Hills, has also lodged a complaint.
