SHILLONG: President of RR Colony Welfare Society, AB Sen has lauded the residents for heartily welcoming the staff of Bethany hospital.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, he said that the welcoming of the staff was done by the Society’s members.
“It was overwhelming. The people clapped their hands starting from the dispensary”, he said adding that the staff went to the Society’s office and later went back home.
The bus came to the Society to drop them and flowers were also given to them.
Stating that the Society’s office had announced about the arrival of the four Bethany staff, he said, “Everyone accepted them. There is no report of discrimination”.
“We are doing fine and every locality is abiding by the government order. So far, there is no scarcity of essential items”, he said.
He added that in the first half of the opening up of shops, it was difficult to maintain social distancing and the localities were overcrowded. However, they have learnt to cope with social distancing.
Again, after the first COVID positive case emerged, the people became very cautious and there was no overcrowding, he said.
When asked about BPL families, he said there are 200 BPL families and families holding both APL and BPL cards are approximately 400.
The Welfare Society had distributed essential items to poor families four times and the Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) had also distributed twice.
Sen is currently under quarantine as one of his relatives was in Bethany hospital.
RR Colony has a total of more than 275 households and together with the tenants, it is about 800 households.
