SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Shillong Circle has criticised the state government for not keeping the domestic help, who had tested positive for COVID-19, under institutional quarantine.
The maid, staying in Nongrim Hills, had flouted the quarantine rules by venturing out of her house to buy essentials.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the JSU slammed the government for exercising caution on quarantine norms.
Pointing out that the source of COVID-19 in the state was still a mystery, the JSU also came down heavily on the state government for being very lenient towards violators.
The union has urged the state government to keep patients in institutional quarantine instead of opting for home quarantine. “As a matter of fact, the COVID positive patient should be sent to a quarantine centre which has been designated specifically to cater to such cases. Under home quarantine, patients will be less alert which will make it difficult for the Dorbar Shnong to monitor them. Free movement of patients might trigger the spread of the virus”, the union stated.
