SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi States has called on the citizens and villages to cooperate and consider quarantine options for all state returnees.
It may be mentioned that a similar request was made by the Federation of Khasi States to the state government recently to draw up a road map for quarantining all the people returning to the state.
“The Federation of Khasi States strongly supports and encourages the citizens, especially the families of the returnees to discuss with the village Dorbar Shnong to utilise the schools, colleges, community halls, including churches and church assets as quarantine centres to quarantine returnees in their respective villages,” Adviser & Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States, John F Kharshiing, said in a statement.
Dwelling on the inconvenience, which, according to him, “is a small price to pay for the safety of the family members and the community and the state”, he said, “It would have been much helpful if the state government had put in place and considered the road map”.
He also said that there is still time if citizens come forward and cooperate and discuss with the Dorbar Shnong to make such arrangements.
Kharshiing has also requested one and all to exhort returnees to self-quarantine themselves so as to effectively combat the pandemic.
“We urge all the citizens of Meghalaya to consider these suggestions urgently as part of its preparation to welcome the 13,000 returnees coming from all over India to Meghalaya,” Kharshiing said.
“We also urge all the Syiem, Lyngdoh, Sirdar, Dolloi, Syiem Raid, Lyngdoh Raid, Sordar Raid, Rangbah Shnong, Sordar Shnong, Myntri Shnong, and Council of Nokma to take steps to raise this awareness on the importance, thereby benefitting by facilitating a quarantine location in the villages,” he added.
