Hill Farmers’ Union forms body to tackle crisis

SHILLONG: The Hill Farmers’ Union has constituted an advisory committee for ‘COVID-19 Pandemic Farmers’ Crisis Council Committee of Hill Farmers Union’, comprising initially of nine members.
“The Committee will be the apex advisory body to the Union for identifying policy priorities for the agrarian communities covering agriculture and allied sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, which would be submitted to the Government of Meghalaya
and Government of India for further approvals and amendments,” a statement from the Union said. The statement added that the committee will assist the Union in monitoring and reviewing the implementation of various development schemes meant for farmers and will advise the Union in identifying and inducting appropriate technologies, models, methodologies and industry connects for the benefit of the farmers.
“The Committee will advise on introduction of new techniques for farming and processing activities that are likely to bring better value to the farmers. It will also advise on the various financial models and schemes available for the benefit of the farmers,” the Union said.
