NONGPOH: In a bid to ease the burden on the district administrations and Health department to check the spread of COVID-19, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has suggested Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to deploy the local unemployed youths of the state at COVID-19 screening centres/check points located at different parts of the state.
“There is a huge stress on the concerned district administrations and Health department to manage the required manpower at the screening centres/check points. On May 8, when all elected representatives of Ri Bhoi district visited the screening point at 13th Mile, Byrnihat, we found that there are huge problems in managing the task at ground. At present, apart from the Health department, most of the staffs were taken from different line departments of the district and time will come that these deputed staff will have to return back to their regular duties in their respective departments,” a statement said on Thursday. “Therefore, in this regard, I am suggesting that the unemployed youths of the state — who belong to different backgrounds of profession and qualification, preferably those from health background — maybe invited, the statement added.
Syiem also said that those who are willing to accept voluntarily be given training and deputed at the screening centres/check points across the state “with remuneration/honorarium as pay that may be incurred from the dedicated DDMA fund of the concerned districts”.
