TURA: The Achik Baptist Krima No-6 Pastoral Forum, South West Garo Hills, has embarked on an intensive awareness campaign on COVID-19 in the villages across the district in collaboration with the District Administration and District Public Relations Office, Ampati, from Thursday.
The campaign, led by pastors and youth groups of the district, covered at least 38 villages with four teams on the first day and is expected to cover all the villages across the district in the coming days. The campaign is being conducted in Garo, Koch, Hajong, Bengali and Assamese languages depending on the area in the market places, roadsides and the villages.
Nokmas, gaonburas, religious leaders and the villagers were given awareness on COVID-19, its preventive measures, the need to strictly observe the protocols of advisories issued by the government and to extend support and help to those returning from outside the state and undergoing home quarantine instead of stigmatising them besides the importance of social distancing as well as wearing masks.
The teams are also distributing face masks to the villagers as well as leaflets on COVID-19 published by the DIPR and other pamphlets issued by the district administration.
