SHILLONG: Mission Compound is lauded by people for welcoming two doctors and a ward boy of Bethany Hospital.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, the secretary of Mission Compound, Don Kupar War said on Sunday that there is no such thing as discrimination as most of the residents are doctors and to send a strong message of hope, the Dorbar Shnong decided to give the Bethany staff a warm welcome.
War said there are 8 families already quarantined and the Dorbar has requested the authorities at Working Women’s hostel and DNS Wahlang school to use them as institutional quarantine centres. He added that it is not feasible for the returnees to be home quarantined. “So far from the North East, no one has reported to the Dorbar and from the rest of the country there are 3. They are yet to come as it will take two weeks’ time. One is a patient in Vellore and one is from Hyderabad while another is from Mumbai”, he said.
There are COVID-19 management team volunteers in the locality. As for the criticism that some who were under home quarantine did not get essential supplies, War said that there were some problem initially but it was ensured that every quarantined resident gets the essential items.
As for payment of rent, War said that so far no one has complained and it is the outcome of the cordial relationship the tenants have with the house owners.
There are 350 households out of which 40-45 households fall under the category of daily wage earners. He said the Dorbar also facilitates distribution of essential commodities to the families.
