MGNREGA workers asked to follow health protocols

SHILLONG: Community & Rural Development Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has said that the MGNREGA workers have been directed to work with the strength of maximum of five workers in view of COVID-19. He was replying to a question raised by Mayralborn Syiem (Congress) in the Assembly on Thursday.

The minister added that the workers have also been directed to strictly adhere to the guidelines laid down by the government by practising hand washing etiquettes, wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing, among others. He further informed that all Community and Rural Development Blocks were also advised to ensure employment is provided whenever there is demand for work. To a question, Dhar said that the work orders under MGNREGA have been issued.

He also said that payment of wages and materials have been made as per availability of funds. Later, Syiem pointed out that there were instances of workers violating health protocols as social distancing was not maintained.
