SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday visited Bethany Hospital which reopened after it was closed for 40 days following the detection of first COVID-19 positive case in the state.
In presence of late Dr John L Sailo Rynthathiang’s wife and other family members, the chief minister paid tribute to Dr. Sailo, the founder of Bethany Hospital and joined the family in prayers. “I thank the entire Bethany Hospital team who responded to the pressure in a positive and cooperative manner. I also thank the community who supported the government and Bethany Hospital during the time of crisis,” said Conrad.
He said that the biggest tribute to Dr. Sailo will be for the team to continue with the good work and fulfil his vision for the people.
The inspection by health officials and those from Municipal Board and Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and the subsequent clearance by the government resulted in resumption of operations.
A statement from the Hospital said, “We have missed seeing our patients and we are excited to inform that the hospital will be fully operational finally after a forty day-shutdown”.
The hospital has been fully sanitised as per government guidelines and they have also reiterated their commitment towards working to prevent viral transmission.
Later, Health Minister AL Hek along with government officials also visited the hospital and paid respect to Dr Sailo.
Hek lit a candle at the portrait of the late doctor and encouraged the staff to work even harder.
