NE’s first specialty COVID care hospital comes up in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Northeast India’s first independent specialty hospital for treatment of COVID-19 positive patients was inaugurated in Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) premises here by Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.

The hospital with 200 beds and 50 intensive care units (ICUs) has been constructed with Rs 130 crore and is equipped with Ultra Violet (UV) Ray technology imported from Canada. The UV Ray technology is proven to have capability to kill 99.9% germs.

“This independent and speciality COVID hospital will be a great succour for us in this situation and has added teeth to our preparedness for possible third level transmission of the virus,” the Health Minister aid.

The independent COVID hospital has been opened with six departments and it will admit only those COVID-19 patients who have shown discernible symptoms. The hospital is expected to bring treat of COVID-19 patients at par that is available in AIIMS, New Delhi.
