KHADC seeks action against inflammatory letter
SHILLONG: The CEM of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titos Chyne, said that the Executive Committee (EC) will write to the Home department for necessary action with regard to the inflammatory letter written by two Assam residents. “The EC will write to the state Home Department and it should inform the Assam government. If no arrest is made, it will show that the government is not serious,” he said. Chyne said that the letter written by two persons from Assam incites communal hatred at a time when the state is peaceful. The CEM said that the provoking statements have hurt the sentiments of the people. Moreover, Independent MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri and PDF MDC Macdalyn S Mawlong said the indecent remarks made against women are condemnable as it is their personal life and it is wrong to paint every woman with the same brush.

Wholesalers to open on June 1, 2
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) of East Khasi Hills, on Friday, ordered listed wholesalers of Cantonment, Mawlong Hat, Paltan Bazar, Madanrting and Happy Valley markets to keep their shops open for lifting of stocks on June 1 and 2 between 9 am and 5 pm. On the first day, stock lifting will be for civil-sub divisions and community & rural development blocks of East Khasi Hills, East and West Jaintia Hills districts and their respective civil sub-divisions besides Ri Bhoi will remain opened. Stock lifting on the second day will be for Shillong agglomeration and its adjoining areas besides West and South West Khasi Hills districts and their respective civil sub-divisions. Also, listed SK Oil wholesale traders and Chakki Mills (wholemeal atta) of East Khasi Hills will remain opened on June 1 (rural areas) and June 2 (urban areas) between 9 am and 5 pm.

Villagers receive rice
NONGSTOIN: Residents of two villages — Khyllem Sangrin and Ktiehthawiar — under Langja “B” Centre in West Khasi Hills have received ration under NFSA and non-NFSA after the intervention of the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Langja Area Unit, a report said. President of the HYC along with headmen of the two villages arrived at a fair price shop to collect ration, which was due to be distributed to the villagers since January. The dealer of the shop informed the group that the delay in distribution of rice was due to the irresponsibility of the previous dealer. The council warned the dealer of action against such acts in the future.

Jeevan Raksha Padak awards
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills has informed the public that candidates who are eligible for the Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards, 2020, can fill the form for recommendation available at https://eastkhasihills.gov.in/jeevan-raksha-padak-2020. The Ministry of Home Affairs had instituted an award — Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards — for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving the life of a person. As the name of the award suggests, the award is given to a person for saving someone’s life. The awards are given in three categories — Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Jeevan Raksha Padak.

No network connectivity in village
SHILLONG: Network connectivity, which has become an essence in the present-day world, is still a deprivation for Phlangdiloin village in South West Khasi Hills. A resident of the village, MR Thongney, in a statement, informed that no network provider has functioned in Phlangdiloin till date. Thongney said that due to this, people are compelled to run errands to meet a person if they wished to convey a message, big or small. The resident informed that Reliance-Jio had erected a tower in the region in 2018-end, however, it remains non-functional. He appealed to the service provider to speed up pending works and initiate mobile connectivity in the region, while urging the local legislators and Syiem of Langrin to also take up the matter.

School contributes to CM’s fund
MAWKYRWAT: The Mawthawpdah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in South West Khasi Hills, on Friday, donated Rs 15,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund with contributions made on individual capacities of the school staff and teachers. Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar received the amount at the HSPDP’s office. The donation will be handed over to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma by the MLA. Tongkhar also informed that the Mawkyrwat People’s Development Association (MPDA) has started collecting donations from people with medium income in order to help poor families from Mawkyrwat.
