MGNREGA anomalies: VEC secy suspended

TURA: The Block Development Officer and Programme Officer of Demdema C&RD Block in West Garo Hills has suspended the secretary of the village employment council (VEC) of Sialkhandi for anomalies related the use of funds meant for MGNREGA works flowing widespread complaints from villagers and job card holders.
It was found during enquiry that muster rolls were irregular, job card holders who were given different mandays although the work order was same and during one particular observation, as per the payment register, it was reported that no job card holders were due in wages payment and all job card holders were paid as per the muster rolls but around 48 job card holders were yet to receive their wages.
It was also reported that the secretary of Sialkhandi VEC had prepared the muster rolls for 8 death job card holders for 30 days each amounting to Rs 44,800; and also prepared double muster rolls for dual job card holders for four persons for 30 days which comes to the tune of Rs 24,440.
The Secretary of Shialkandi, Mokbul Hussain, who has been put under suspension with immediate effect until allegations are proved for misappropriation of wages money and the amount withdrawn against the death and dual job card, also has to recoup immediately and recoupment amount should be deposited to the bank account of Demdema C&RD Block, MGNREGS Account and the same amount to be refunded to the Account of DPC or SRES based on the instruction from the higher authority. Also the amount received from the fine fees should be deposited in the same account and counterfoil should be deposited in the office of the Demdema, C&RD Block and Assistant Accountant is directed to monitor the mode of recoupment and detailed amount to be kept in record.
