Woman,daughter killed in fire

Shillong: A 40-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter died and three others were injured after a kerosene lamp burst inside a house in a remote village in Meghalaya on Friday, police official said on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police in-charge West Jaintia Hills district, Lakardor Syiem said the incident occurred on Friday around 7:30 pm when a kerosene lamp accidentally burst in the kitchen of the house of Rapkmen Suiam at Chutwakhu Sarhen village under Saphai police outpost. Chutwakhu Sarhen village is about 103 km from Shillong.
Syiem said Rapkmen Suiam and her daughter Daiowbiang Suiam succumbed to grievous burn injuries. He said Rapkmen’s husband Borsing Tyngkan (40) and their two daughters – Rime Suiam (15) and Meda Suiam (17) – were also injured in the fire incident had been shifted to Civil Hospital Ialong in Jowai.
Meanwhile, police have started their investigation into the incident. (UNI)
