SHILLONG: The Meghalaya COVID-19 Response Team has put up a video on its Facebook page highlighting the recovery of a patient from the rural village of Mawtharia, Pomlakrai. The team has informed that the patient has fully recovered and has resumed her day to day activities.
The recovered patient, Daiatiplang Sohtun, shared her quarantine experience and her eventual recovery from the coronavirus. She said that on March 14, the headman had informed her to get herself tested as she had come in contact with the index patient and willingly agreed to get tested.
She was tested on March 15 at Civil Hospital, Shillong and was put up in IIM for two days and on March 17, she was informed that she was tested positive for COVID-19 and was moved to the Civil Hospital.
The headman of Mawtharia, Borlick Suting was asked to instruct the family members of Sohtun to go for self quarantine at home.
Sohtun did not experience any weakness and was mostly asymptomatic. She said that throughout the days of her quarantine, she felt strong and good. The doctors and nurses gave her vitamins and treated her with affection.
“When they serve me food and water, they never placed it on the floor.
They handed over to me. They showed no fear,” she said.
However, she only wished to be quarantined at home to be able to talk to her mother and sister and not feel lonely. Sohtun felt that if others stay in isolation at home they will recover by following instructions of the doctors.
The Shnong also took good care of Sohtun and her family and come forward to help without any fear of the virus.
The message she wants to send by sharing her experiences is that people should not fear the virus but to eat good and healthy food to strengthen their immune system.
Sohtun has fully recovered and is living a normal life once again with her mother, sister and nephew.
