NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) West Khasi Hills District Unit has accused that the government is keeping returnees from both red and green zones together in the quarantine centre in the district.
In a letter to the deputy commissioner, the HYC has said that it has received complaints from the returnees that thequarantine centre run by the district administration is not maintaining COVID-19 protocols.
The HYC informed that the returnees staying in the centre are unhappy over how the district administration is running the centre with several people being forced to use the same toilet which creates discomfort and panic among the inmates.
The HYC also raised concerns over the issue of fresh returnees staying together with the returnees who have been under quarantined for nearly 28 days.
The HYC asked the DC to address the problems faced by the returnees staying in quarantine centre to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
“Keeping fresh returnees in the same quarantine centre with the returnees who have nearly completed 28 days of isolation as per the advisories of the Health Department is unacceptable and it will not help to contain the virus,” the HYC said.
The DC, meanwhile, has assured to accord top priority to the concerns of the HYC.
